What counts as a dental emergency
Call us today if you have
- A toothache that's keeping you awake
- A cracked, chipped or broken tooth
- A tooth knocked out or knocked loose
- A lost filling or crown
- Swelling in the gum, jaw or face
- Bleeding that will not stop
Go to an emergency room instead if
You have swelling that's spreading, swelling affecting your breathing or swallowing, a high fever with facial swelling, or a jaw injury after an accident. That isn't caution for its own sake. A spreading dental infection is genuinely dangerous and a hospital can treat it faster than a dental chair can.
What helps while you wait
- Rinse with warm salt water
- Cold compress on the outside of the cheek
- Over-the-counter pain relief, as directed on the box
- If a tooth came out, keep it in milk and bring it
- Don't put aspirin directly on the gum, it burns the tissue

Why same-day is even possible
We deliberately don't fill every appointment slot in advance. That's the whole reason there's somewhere to put you when a tooth breaks on a Saturday morning.
We can't promise it on a web page, because it depends on what's already in the book that day. What we can promise is that you'll get a straight answer on the phone in under a minute.
Emergency questions
My tooth got knocked out. What do I do?
Pick it up by the crown, the chewing part, not the root. If it's dirty, rinse it briefly in milk or saline, not tap water, and don't scrub it. If you can, put it back in the socket and bite gently on a clean cloth. If you can't, keep it in a container of milk.
Then call us immediately. Time matters a great deal with a knocked-out adult tooth, and the first hour is the best chance of saving it.
Can you actually see me today?
If we're open and you call rather than fill in the form, usually yes. We hold appointment room back for emergencies specifically. We can't promise it in advance on a page because it depends on what's already booked that day, but same-day is what we aim for.
I don't have insurance. Can I still come in?
Yes. Tell the front desk when they call and they'll talk you through the cost of the appointment before you commit to anything. Nobody is going to start treatment without telling you what it costs first.
It stopped hurting. Do I still need to come in?
Usually yes, and this one catches a lot of people out. Tooth pain that suddenly disappears can mean the nerve inside has died, which doesn't fix the problem, it just removes the alarm. The underlying infection carries on quietly. Get it looked at.
